Also, some tribes identify with names of their native languages as well as names used by the Spanish (in parentheses), e.g., Salinan. Whenever possible, we will use the name currently recognized by the tribe and link to the official website. Otherwise, you may be directed to other educational links. The maps provided on this website use tribal names on the maps at the Autry Museum, Los Angeles ,California, one of the West’s foremost institutions pertaining to native American cultures.
